The Great Outdoors Blog Hop Day 2 - My stop!

Island Batik Ambassadors are all participating in The Great Outdoors Blog Hop this month.

See the surprise packages that we received in February made up into beautiful pieces. Plus there are giveaways galore!

Find the schedule on Island Batiks' page HERE along with an opportunity to sign up for a prize, or three.

Today is my stop on the hop, along with fellow Ambassador Ark Angel Creations.

I was thrilled to open my surprise package of Bird N' Bees fabrics. The prints. The colors. Oh, those colors!

I chose one of my unpublished patterns, still named "Kelly's quilt" for the person it was designed for. Maybe that will change, but it's stuck so far.

HERE is Kelly's version from Feb 2017.

It's a simple quilt, with strip piecing, though there are instructions that are given for keeping directional fabrics upright. Large and small squares are perfect for showcasing the fabrics that you loved, but maybe have prints that are too large for traditional piecing.

I was able to piece the entire top in two evenings. I chose to make mine more of a gradient version, as I felt the fabrics worked will with that idea.

The background fabrics, the gorgeous green and cream, I used opposite of gradient plan of the blocks. I hoped it would showcase the lighter and darker pieces better.

Throwing in a little modern touch, to me anyway, I mixed up the background pieces a bit.

Well laid plans...

I didn't get Kelly's quilt quilted. As a family child care provider, my quilting time is usually evenings and weekends. There wasn't a weekend in July that wasn't planned with something. It's next on my to do list though, and I hope to release Kelly's quilt as a digital pattern by the end of the month.

Giveaway

Ready for a chance to win some fabric? This giveaway will be through Sept 7th in order to give everyone a chance at the prize.

What is the prize?  All of my scraps from the first box I received as an Island Batik Ambassador in February! Some of them are small scraps, but there are some 10" squares, 5" strips, fat eights, and a larger cut or two.

Good luck and don't forget to visit each day's ambassador. To make it easy for you I will have a blog post up each afternoon with the next hop.
