Whimsical and Wonky with Island Batik

December's Island Batik challenge for ambassadors was "Whimsical and Wonky."

This is a look I love to look at, but it's not one I tend to pick for myself to make or design. Instead I went searching for a pattern that would work. I found FatCat Patterns.

I also found the 2018 BOM "Gnome for the Holidays." I didn't have time to do the whole quilt, though I think it is too cute and I SHOULD do the whole thing, so I bought one month and made it into a pillow. I used fabrics given to me by Island Batik as part of their ambassador program.

After stitching the gnomes and letters down I put a piece of batting on the wrong side and quilted it. The Check It Out fabric makes a perfect grid for quilting without having to mark lines. As you can see, I simply knotted the loose threads on the back side and didn't worry about making it pretty.

Layering your top piece with your back pillow piece ( I cut my pieces 1/2 inch wider and taller than my pillow form) I stitched all the way around leaving an opening on one of the short sides. After I trimmed the corners I flipped it right side out and inserted the pillow form.

I hand stitched that edge shut.

Cute, whimsical pillow. I think a few pillows made up with the blocks from the FatCat Pattern along with the quilt, would make a cozy living room set.

Happy Stitching!
Jen
