Welcome to the last day in the Quiltmaker's Road Trip. I'm so glad you have stopped by.
Made from the beautiful Cirrus Solids fabrics from Cloud9 this is a simple and quick block.
The colors remind me of the mountains, the strong grey of the mountain rock, the blues of the changing sky.
I love a block that gives you a secondary pattern when put into a quilt.
Or turn that baby on point and get a who new look.
OK, not Montana, but isn't that a good looking group of kids? |
Some of my favorite memories are on trips with my family. One of the best was a trip out to Montana.
Those mountain views never get old, and there are so many things to see and take in while you are road trippin'.
So while I sit in nostalgic memories, share with me a favorite trip you have taken, either by yourself or with friends/family.

Wonderful block! Thank you for sharing! My family used to go camping in the NC mountains every year in October. It was fun! Enjoy your day! angielovesgary2 atgmail dotcom
ReplyDeleteLovely block and I love seeing it multiplied into a quilt. Haven't made it to Montana yet - maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories was flying over the Rocky Mountains in a plane while Ray Charles sang America the Beautiful. funnylady93@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories is the trip my husband and I took to Pikes Peak in Colorado. Such a beautiful scenery!
ReplyDeleteGreat block, I love the nice clean look of it and can't decide which of your two samples I like better, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe visited Montana in 2016 when my daughter and son-in-law lived there. We got to see Yellowstone for the first time and really enjoyed our trip there.
ReplyDeleteI really like your block! Your color choices were perfect. I think my favorite trip was to a family reunion on Jekyll Island in Georgia. We went in late August and the southern schools were already in session. So it was a relatively deserted and quiet trip to the beach.
ReplyDeleteTwo years in a row my family biked, hiked, and canoed across our state of Connecticut to celebrate the centennial of our state park system--such a great experience!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place (trips) to go is Garner State Park. And yes, that is camping. We used to be die-hard tent campers until recently. We are getting too old to sleep on the ground and now, we have a R-pod which is wonderful because we can take our cats with us now. :-)

I love your on point setting of your block. It reminds me of the feathers on arrows. One of our favorite family trips was a week in Alaska. We went from Anchorage, to Whittier, to Seward, complete with a dog sled ride.
ReplyDeleteCute block! Congratulations and thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip was up to the North Carolina mountains. It is such a beautiful place to visit.
Congratulations on a great block! My favorite family trip was to San Diego!
ReplyDeleteI do believe that you have chosen just the right color combination for this block. I also like the idea of creating a secondary pattern when put into a quilt. Just perfect. Thank you for being a part of the Road Rally Tour and wishing you Happy Holidays.

Great block - thank you for the giveaway. Trip - we used to take our children (when they were little) to state parks in kentucky. We always had a lot of fun! (couponcrazyinky at gmail dot com).
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Mona,
DeleteYou are the winner of the magazine!
Nice block that looks fun to make. Montana is a beautiful state.
ReplyDeleteHad a great cruise in Alaska to see wildlife and fun small Alaskan towns (two with quilt shops). rozz01(at)cox(dot)net
ReplyDeleteGreat block - it's amazing how different it is on point. We just visited my sister in Florida - near Pensacola. My first time in Florida & within the first hour we saw dolphins in the bay from her back deck. So cool! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWe took a trip to Disney World when only child Carrie was about 12. Since we felt sorry she was an only child, we let her take 3 of her friends. It was a wonderful blur of chaos, hysterical laughter and child sized alien dolls they all won at the Carnival games. Try getting 4 huge aliens on a plane for a 3 hour flight home........
ReplyDeleteLove the block, congratulations on having one in the book!
My most favorite trip is when my husband and I went to Montreal (with a side trip to Quebec). The people were wonderful and there was a lot to learn.
ReplyDeleteLove your block when it is put into different configurations.

What a lovely block. I love the secondary patterns it reveals when you put it all together! I love your Montana photos! That is my home state you know. :) Grew up and lived most my life nestled in the beautiful mountains.
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite trip was to Alaska. I can't wait to go back again some day. I have been to Montana several times and those mountains are irresistible. Thanks for sharing your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat block. So many favorites but Devil's Tower stands out as a favorite.
ReplyDeleteGreat block, thanks for sharing and the giveaways! cork@pa.rr.com
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Great block. I don't travel much but for my 65th birthday I treated myself to a trip to France to see Monet's gardens. I went with a tour group - had a great time, made new friends. The gardens were as awesome as I had hoped. The trip of a lifetime!

ReplyDeleteSo many great blocks - all designers have done an excellent job. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteWe traveled to the Grand Canyon once when we were in Las Vegas. It was amazing to see. Thank you, peterstankovich@comcast.net
ReplyDeleteAwesome block, and love your inspiration! I love any of the vacations I have taken with my family. Someone trying to sell us a time share one time told us that you may not remember what you got for Christmas last year, but you certainly remember vacations! Thanks for sharing the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMountains are wonderful, so love your block. We enjoy going to BC, Canada, lots of mountains to enjoy. I appreciate all the work you do to share, it sure inspires me. Thanks.
ReplyDeletedjcutting2(at)gmail(dot)com
Beautiful block and in the right colors for mountains and sky. Living close to mountains I can appreciate the color changes at various times of the day/year. Took me some time to pick out the block when you put it on point. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of mountains. My favorite recent trip was to Steamboat Springs, CO, with our son & daughter-in-law. We did lots of walking, hiking, and eating!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on having your block in the latest issue of 100 blocks!
What a pretty block. I love seeing it with the sashing strips. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove mountains to look at, but not to drive on. Interesting to look at from the air, too.
ReplyDeleteOur whole family went to the Black Hills in ND a few years ago, and it was our most memorable trip. My oldest son went snowmobiling in Montana earlier this year, and it is really beautiful out there.
ReplyDeleteGreat block and thanks for the chance to win some great prizes. My most memorable trip was when I was 6 years old. The whole family went to Alaska. We took a plane there and a cruise ship back. Went hiking the glacier and had to step over bear remains. Yup, that will stick in the brain of a 6 year old forever.)
ReplyDeleteI love to drive and have had many road trips. My favorite was across the US - California to upper state New York.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip was to Williamsburg, VA as I simply love history. I also want to say that I really like your block set on point.
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was 2-1/2 and my oldest son was 12 we took a road trip to visit my family (about 1100 miles). Tricia Yearwood's first song, "She's in Love With the Boy" had just come out, and my daughter loved it! We'd search for it on the radio and sing along. The whole ride up. My son asked to stay longer and fly back because he was tired of it. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSo many trips, and memories, flooded my mind when you asked that question. They are all favorites of mine, for some reason or other. ndfromsd(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteLove your block! So many possibilities. Last time I was in Montana was at Great Falls. We went to the Lewis and Clark interpretation Center there and it's the best one we've seen. jskbloomers@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI like your block, It's really stunning Great design and a lot of variations
ReplyDeleteI like the 2nd quilt layout. 24Tangent@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteLove your block! When I was younger my favorite trips were in the BWCA (Boundary Wasters Canoe Area) in northern Minnesota. Spent many a fabulous week paddling camping, and back-packing in those lakes, islands, and woods. -Nancy
ReplyDeleteLast summer my husband, son and I went to Ireland and Scotland. The scenery was amazing and it was so interesting to meet people there and see how they live "across the pond". Many of the people we talked to knew a great deal about America which struck me as interesting since I knew very little about Ireland & Scotland before visiting.

DeleteWhat a fun block! My husband and I took a trip to Italy to see our son and his family. We have to go again so we can see their new son who is 6 months old already....time passes so fast. I live in SE Alaska and our mountains have the same amount of snow as yours. I woke up this morning to a dusting of snow, but now it is windy and rainy...ah, the joys of winter.

DeleteOur kids treated us to a bus tour to the southern states for our anniversary about four years ago--called "Tennessee Christmas"-wonderful time.
ReplyDeletebarbkaup(at)(yahoo)(dot)(com)
I went to Drumheller, Alberta to the Royal Tyrrell Museum that features dinosaur fossils and reconstructed dinosaurs. It was amazing!

DeleteSuper cute block! I live in a vacation area in Northern MN, so I don't travel so much. Your Montana mountains are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the secondary patterns your block creates. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteI have been three times to the Montana Mountains. You are right something different each time. Our son even lived in that area for awhile. Winter is terrible, so are jobs. I still would love to go again. Do love your softly Circled pattern lkcquilt at hotmail.com

That truly is hard to answer because I have been fortunate to have done a lot of traveling. I have visited Israel 3 times, and my favorite was the 3rd. I went with a group of Christians who listen to Moody radio in Central Illinois. For that trip we collected 1000 stuffed bears (we actually collected more but some couldn't go to Israel so they went to children in Illinois). The bears took up 3 rooms of our house:) Besides the usual spots where we had Bible lessons, we went into schools and hospitals. This was in 2002 when tourism was down 90%. Our group also gave blood. A few times we even had people in tears thanking us for being there.
ReplyDeleteLove your block & what beautiful pictures - such inspiration! My favorite trip was to Ruby Falls in Tennessee. I even fought back my claustrophobia to venture down underground, well worth it -amazing!Thank you for sharing, Susan
ReplyDeleteI lived in Montana for a year and it's too bad many people badmouth Montana, when it should get lots of praise. Kathy in colo repzjratplainsdotnet
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite trips was one we took this past June was to Montana to Glacier National Park. We rode the Amtrak from Iowa and back home. The entire trip was amazing with such gorgeous scenery along the way. We even saw bears in Montana!
ReplyDeleteThis Augudt we had travelled to the Canadian Rockies to our niece's wedding in Golden, British Columbia. The wedding was on top of a mountain with fantastic views! All the family was there making it extra special! It was absolutely beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip ever was for my 35th wedding anniversary. We took a 21 day trip from NC to CA. It was fabulous.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip ever was to Spain! I actually went to school but it felt like a true vacation. The culture is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite trip was a family vaction in northern Wisconsin to stay at a cabin on a lake.
ReplyDeleteI live in the mountains of Montana - you’re right . They are heavenly!! We took a great trip to Ireland this fall. It was great. Calund47 at gmail dot c9m
ReplyDeleteLove your Cartwheel block. I have enjoyed traveling to many places but the one that stands out in my mind is a trip to Russia with a missions group.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, my family used to go to Northern California and stay at Patrick Creek Lodge. We had such wonderful times there, year after year. Many years later, driving up the coast, I stopped at the Lodge with my sweet dog and walked around under the same big trees, remembering time spent with my parents and brother that helped us grow closer as a family.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on having your block included in Quiltmaker’s 100, Vol. 16! What a beautiful block that makes a lovely quilt. This isn’t really a story but talk of camping always make me think of this. I grew up in Alaska and went camping with my family all the time. When I moved to California and someone mentioned needing reservations to go camping, I thought they were pulling my leg! I had never heard of that. ;-D
ReplyDeleteSuper giveaway! Thanks for a chance to play.

One of my favorite trips was years ago....by myself....when my husband gave me a plane ticket for Christmas to fly to Washington State to see my friend. We live in VA and i had never been on that side of the country. It was wonderful!!! She had a delightful itinerary planned...and when I got home I made her a double scrapbook (and myself a duplicate!) of all the places we went and fun we had. I still remember that special time.
ReplyDeleteCute block. My favorite trips right now are to Hungary, mission trips with my church.

DeleteMy favorite trips were our yearly Canada trips to visit my Moms sisters and brothers. Such good times hanging out and playing cards. I love and miss them. ncc01760 (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteWe live in California but my daughter went to Sweet Briar College in Virginia. It is in a rural location so she needed a car. Every fall, we'd do a road trip to Virginia and I'd fly home. When school was out for the summer, I'd fly back to Virginia and we'd drive her and her car back to California. We'd take a different route each time and had some great trips!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite trips was to Newfoundland, Canada. prycek(at)mymts.net
ReplyDeleteGreat block and thanks for info about Montana. I would love it there, too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! So much like stars and snowflakes, which are two of my favorite designs. My favorite memories are of family trips, too. Once to Yellowstone when I was a kid, and the last two years when my husband and I rented a cabin in Island Park and explored Yellowstone with our sons. If I could have my own cabin like that one, with my sewing machine, stash and supplies and a longarm, and be near the mountains and hiking, I'd be a "happy camper".
ReplyDeletereillyr2(at)hotmail(dot)com
Great block design! I just love where I live--on a beautiful river in OR for 15 years & now on a hill overlooking other hills & trees! I have a 2 room studio (one room for my longarm) so why do I need to travel!! pjrquilter (at) msn (dot) com
ReplyDeleteI love to go to the mountains too. Our favorite place to visit is Radium Springs in the Canadian Rockies. I could live there too. Thanks!
ReplyDeletePlease click on the delaineelliott above for my email link.
Wonderful block and the colors are great. One of our favorite family trips has been to 1000 islands, New York. Our kids still talk about how much they enjoyed the trip.
ReplyDeleteNice variation of classic block. I love it. jitka.koudelova(§)hitech.cz
ReplyDeleteOooo, the mountains!!! Can I be your neighbor? LOL! I always complain about the Maryland summers and how fall never seems to get here fast enough as the temps in the summers make it too hot to quilt. I guess that's when I make some muggamos (just found your page on those :) ) Congrats on your block!! Love it on point! Such different looks in the layouts :) Have a great Thanksgiving! (hopefully sneak some sewing time in between making pie :) )
ReplyDeleteGreat block, I love the secondary pattern! When our children were young we would go to The Great Smokey Mountains to camp, that was our favorite place to go on vacation.
ReplyDeletececilialyoung at gmail.com
