It's hard to believe, but we have reached December and the last block in the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge!
Inspired by their gracious flight, unique and sometimes vibrant color, I chose birds to guide us in our challenge this year. To see the full year in preview read the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge Announcement.
This month our color is inspired by the amazing Cardinal. The male cardinal is such a gorgeous bright red. We have a cardinal couple that hangs around our neighborhood and I love seeing the red flitting from one place to another.
Here are some more fun facts about the amazing Cardinal from All About Birds.
***...perplexed each spring by the sight of a cardinal attacking its reflection in a window, car mirror, or shiny bumper. Both males and females do this, and most often in spring and early summer when they are obsessed with defending their territory against any intruders. Birds may spend hours fighting these intruders without giving up.
***A perennial favorite among people, the Northern Cardinal is the state bird of seven states.
The first two song examples in THIS LINK are what I hear all summer long. The second one I now refer to as the "Star Wars song" thanks to a friend who pointed out the "pew, pew, pew" sounds. 😉
It's time for the December block! It was so fun to make this block, knowing we are finishing up a tough year with a pretty color. The corner pieces make me thing of wrapped candy.

Your blocks are gorgeous, Jen! We had a young cardinal attacking our window - relentlessly - one season. We ended up putting paper on the lower part of the window until mating season was done and his territorial thing got over itself. Ha! Thanks for hosting another fun year of the color challenge!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project. Helped me get through a tough year. Always looked forward to the next block and searching through my stash for the perfect color for the month. When will we get the final directions to assemble the quilt?
