Designers Quilt Show Day 6

Day 6 of the Designers Quilt Show is about to begin!
I can't believe we're nearing the end, but it's NOT the end, so don't go anywhere yet! We've got a new day of designers, a little somethin' somethin' going on tonight (read on) and tomorrow is going to have all the awesomeness of prize giveaways, voting and a recap of the awesome week we've had together.

There are still classes to be taken! Which ones have you taken or planning to take? I don't know about you, but I'm thankful that I can go back to watch them, the work week is crazy for me right now.

Prizes! Prizes! Prizes!  Have you registered yet? Did you start, but there were a few things to do, so you thought you would finish later? Well now is the time! I want you to win, but to win you have to register!!

Anyone else in their jammies at 7 and ready for bed by 8?  Ok. Truth. I WANT to be in my jammies by 7 and in bed at 8, but that just doesn't happen right now. So instead, we're all going to pretend to be in our pj's and have a pajama party at 7 PM EST TONIGHT!  If you haven't yet like Kathryn's Facebook Page, Dragonfly's Quilting Design Studio, do so now so you can watch the live event! She's got something special to share, I will be sharing the next TWO patterns coming from Patterns By Jen and there will be others, but if I told you everything, there wouldn't be any surprises, so you will just have to come.

Our last day is tomorrow, don't miss it!

Happy Stitching!

We are on Day 4 of the Designers Quilt Show.

One nice thing about a Virtual Quilt Show; my feet don't hurt. On the other hand my back is a little sore from sitting in a chair for so long. Anyone else?

How awesome is it that there are different quilts and shops to visit each day? Today we again have five new designers with their own unique style and offerings. Enjoy!

Penny Rug Pet Portraits

There is still time to sign up for a chance to win some amazing prizes. Don't put this off to the last day, you would be so sad if you forgot and missed it! Unless that's just me who does that....

The Spinning Bow Ties Quilt Along started yesterday! There is plenty of time to get your pattern and join in. We've just started talking fabrics and there is a long list of quilt shops still taking online orders and shipping. Check them out!

Spinning Bow Ties Quilt Along - Fabric

Welcome to Week 1 of the Spinning Bow Ties Quilt Along!

Who is ready to start the next quilt along? I've been wanting to do a quilt along with Spinning Bow Ties for a long time and I'm excited to finally get to it. It is very beginner friendly and really comes together quickly. You can get your pattern in the following places:

Etsy

Payhip

Etsy has both printed and PDF, Payhip has just PDF patterns. I'm extending the sale on this pattern through April 21st.

Yardage requirements are included with your pattern, but for a quick look here is what you need. You choose the size you want to make.

For week one we are pulling fabrics for our quilt. Te find the rest of the schedule see the Announcement Post. You will need four to five fabrics and a border fabric. I chose to use my "Color 4" fabric for both the Inner Border and as "Color 5" so I only have four fabrics plus the outer border.

I am making mine with red, white (cream) and blue fabrics to donate to Quilts of Valor, this pattern lends itself to lots of possibilities.

Here are a few "mock ups" using different colors.

Changing the placement of the lighter and darker fabrics changs the look of the pattern.

Here are the two quilts that are on the cover. I slightly regret choosing the brown for the inner border. The middle of the bow ties is an aqua with brown dots, but they are small enough that the inner border doesn't draw them out enough to look right. In my opinion.

Using the black and yellow solids as Colors A and B really brought the pinwheels out in this version.

I'm using a dark blue for my Color 3 (yellow in the above quilt photo).

Red will be used for Color 4, 5 and the Inner Border (black in the above quilt photo).

I have a cream with blue for Color 1 (white in the above quilt photo).

Medium blue will be Color 2 (yellow and block print in the above quilt photo).

Then I had to have a fun border print for the Outside border.

Shops Still Shipping

Say that three times fast! Not finding what you want in your stash? While I encourage you to seek out your local quilt shop and see if they are doing curbside delivery, I have a list of shops that are still filling and shipping orders. Lets support these shops during this crazy time.

Oh my goodness you guys!! I went to each shop site to make sure the link I was given was correct. We could shop for daaaaaaaayssssssss.  Even if you don't need fabric for this quilt along, or are in circumstances that prevent you from buying right now, I encourage you to go window shopping. You may find a new shop you love! Follow it (or them) on social media, get inspired and reach out to let them know you found them and love them.

Now go pull your fabrics!! If you are questioning your fabric choices, please join the Quilt and Learn with Patterns By Jen Facebook group (answer BOTH questions so I can approve your request) and share a picture of your fabric pull. I'm happy to help. Once you think you've finalized your fabrics, add them to the link up below to get others inspired. This isn't a permanent choice, you can still change it later. On social media we are using #spinningbowtiesquiltalong  It's nice and long, but once you type it the first time hopefully your phone will remember it. Ha!

Happy Stitching Fabric Pulling!

Designers Quilt Show

In this time when we all need to come together, and yet stay a part, quilters have begun to stitch up masks in amazing numbers. Donating time and supplies to try and help give a layer of protection to those who need it. Whether you have had the time and means to be a part of the mask making movement, or have supported humanity in any other number of ways, including taking care of yourself and those important to you, this week is for you.

Take a moment each day to visit the Designers Virtual Quilt Show webpage to be introduced to new designers and vendors and see the class schedule. If you haven't yet, make sure to sign up for the newsletter so you don't miss anything.

Today is the first day and I'm thrilled to be one of four featured designers. If you are new to Patterns By Jen, let me introduce myself. I'm Jen, wife of almost 22 years, mom to four "children" ages 24, 21, 18, and 16, family child care provider for 17 years and quilt pattern designer. We live in SW Minnesota where we just had 2 inches of snow drop on Easter Day, must be spring! Our summers are gorgeous, hot, and mosquito filled, but the lakes make it worth it. Our falls are perfect days of color, crunching leaves and quilting weather, our winters are bone deep, burn your lungs cold with lots of snow, but they are also beautiful and crisp and perfect for quilting.

My quilty passion is beginner quilters. I love to introduce the art of quilting to those just stepping out into this amazing quilt journey. At the top of the blog you can find the Beginners Unite Tab (or just click on those words), it will take you to a list of how to blog posts on everything from the quilt tools I love to how to hand stitch your binding and add a label.

Diamond Run

Almost all of my patterns are beginner friendly, with a few advanced patterns thrown in, though even those are written with the beginner in mind. I want quilters to take my pattern, make it and be able to proudly show off their accomplishment, and the instructions are written to help quilters do that.

Quilt Crush

Each pattern is tested by multiple testers. These amazing quilters range from the Advanced Beginner to Advanced Quilter and they are not afraid to question my instructions or let me know if I've completely confused them. Ha! They check my math, fabric requirements and make the quilt so that each step is read, followed and verified, so you can feel confident that the quilt will come together as stated.

The Border Quilt 2 ~ A Medallion Series Quilt from Patterns By Jen

However, I am human, and even with the corrections I sometime miss something. You can always find known errors on the Errata page. It's just one more step to make sure I am helping you as much as possible.

Make Modern

While my patterns tend towards the traditional I have wandered over to the modern side a few times. You can find my latest magazine quilt in Issue 32 of Make Modern, a virtual quilt magazine out of Australia. (These are affiliate links. I make small amount, at no extra cost to you, if you buy through these links.)

One of my favorite things is the Monthly Color Challenge I run. The Color Challenge is a BOM that is in it's 3rd year. Each month you get free instructions for a block and at the end of the year free instructions for the setting. There are guest bloggers and sponsors for quarterly giveaways. It's worth checking out. (I'm kind of proud of it.)

I am available for trunk shows as well as classes on a few of my patterns. I enjoy getting hands on with fellow quilters, otherwise my days are only filled chit chatting with two year olds, which can be very eye opening, but sometimes Jen needs adult time.

Gradient Stars

Classes can be made beginner friendly or more challenging, dependent on the class needs. The trunk show can have over 40 quilts to gawk at, for those that include plane travel, the slide show brings even more.

Sneak Peek

Next week I am releasing my 26th quilt pattern. Braided Chain was tested for the first time almost 2 years ago, but it wasn't what I envisioned. It has now been tested a second time and this version I love! It has instructions for five different sizes and I'm so excited to show it to you. Make sure you come back next week for a look at how the testers made this pattern their own, the quilts are gorgeous!

Don't miss the other designers from Day 1 of the Quilt show.

There are classes all week long, including today's class that features Ebony Love and how to make the Olsen mask using dye cuts and a lunch break with Jen Frost and her favorite quilty tools. Find more HERE.

Prizes

Did I mention prizes?  Make sure you go to THIS LINK to enter for prizes, you can do this all week long!

Last, but not least, I'm going to add a little plug for my upcoming quilt along that starts THIS WED! The Spinning Bow Ties Quilt Along starts Wednesday, but there is plenty of time to get your pattern and start thinking fabrics. PS this pattern is on sale until Wednesday! Find all of the information HERE.

Thank you so much for stopping by during the Designers Virtual Quilt Show. It was a pleasure to introduce myself and my patterns. I hope you enjoyed the time as well. Please make sure to visit the other designers and come back tomorrow for more Quilt Show Fun!
